Debt

I have posted in the past about people in positions of power, money, influence, are seldom held accountable for their actions. I have made this point particularly against the workings of Hollywood and the way their politics have bled over into everyday society. Speaking only on things that have been made public record, such as the contractual hijacking of a persons childhood that Disney places on it’s child stars, most of whom are not even deemed old enough to be granted the responsibility of a driver’s license or hold hold a standard job when they are first contracted to become these stars. I have spoken on convicted child rapists who escape they’re penalty being gifted an Academy Award for their work. I have mentioned the ability they have to say and do things openly in the public that the average citizen would get arrested for. All of this is pretty much open and available knowledge, there has always been this rumored underbelly of the beast that has been swept under the rug by their own…..Until now. Now like wildfire people are being outed into the light of day and it is showing no signs of letting up, in fact it is growing. The Harvey Weinstein allegations and subsequent punishment has sparked the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment by women in droves. And while Rose McGowan may down play the actions of a child rapist, whose victim was A BOY, it seems now that former 80’s child star Corey Feldman has had enough with pedophilia being overlooked as a major issue in Hollywood, now he has always spoke up about it, but until recently with so many victims making cases against powerful people in the industry the climate is now right to make the biggest impact and he is making his move, which hopefully brings out the cavalry. My only issue with all of this is that we are seeing some cases come to light which are early signs of the Witch Hunt Syndrome society tends to get whenever something like this becomes a big deal and every body suddenly wants to push to do something about this issue that has been in our faces this whole time. The same thing happened in the education system post Columbine shooting, when everyone decided that they should fear their own schools getting shot up. What this led to initially was kids who were being bullied at the time, now not only had to deal with their tormentors, but the scrutiny of the faculty as well who automatically put them into the suspected potential for mass violence list. Years and multiple mass media covered shootings later, my own incarceration over a misrepresented line in something I wrote became further proof of what happens when we as a society get on a roll with screaming for justice too loudly to hear reasoning over top of it.

That said, I am glad to finally see people trying to take back a very influential industry from predators who have milked secrecy for far too long, and have gained far more power than they deserve because of it. I just want to stress, be mindful of the possible overextentions that have a tendency to follow such a huge movement. BURN IT DOWN, just keep it within the boundaries.

Now you may be wondering why I bring any of this up and how it is in any way relevant to the topic I am about to go into, well here is my answer. You have to wonder why it is pedophilia can be allowed to go under the radar in Hollywood for so long, why an 80’s child star is now standing up to be the hero for others that no one wanted to be for him and the only thing that I can come up with is money, the people who make it and help others make it are people no one wants to stand against. What I am about to tell you is further proof, that there is something terribly wrong with society’s mentality. You see Hollywood is not the only place that has been quietly making children victims. I am referring to Health care in America, in the forms of both denying a child coverage of insurance, or the out right refusal to treat a child all together. The following are example pulled from petitions from http://Change.org

For me it began last year with the signing of this petition to help an infant child get put back on the transplant list after being removed, for reasons that she may be developmentally slow. Now I will not rehash the story of baby Lily, you can find it on my page Loss Column

Baby Lily, never did get back on the list in her home area and she died one of the last losses of 2016 on December 31st. That was a hard one because I shared that petition almost daily sometimes in several places. It was beyond me how Health Care providers could leave a child, who had a chance to live to die like that. It seems it does not stop there.

Before I go further I want to cover what is “Claimed” to be the cornerstone of health care givers when they enter the field. Below are both the original Hypocratic Oath as well as it’s reboot for modern language, What I will show you next will make you further question whether or not some health care providers may have mistaken it as the Hypocritical Oath.

Original Version

I swear by Apollo Physician and Asclepius and Hygieia and Panaceia and all the gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that I will fulfill according to my ability and judgment this oath and this covenant:

To hold him who has taught me this art as equal to my parents and to live my life in partnership with him, and if he is in need of money to give him a share of mine, and to regard his offspring as equal to my brothers in male lineage and to teach them this art—if they desire to learn it—without fee and covenant; to give a share of precepts and oral instruction and all the other learning to my sons and to the sons of him who has instructed me and to pupils who have signed the covenant and have taken an oath according to the medical law, but no one else.

I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.

I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.

I will not use the knife, not even on sufferers from stone, but will withdraw in favor of such men as are engaged in this work.

Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice, of all mischief and in particular of sexual relations with both female and male persons, be they free or slaves.

What I may see or hear in the course of the treatment or even outside of the treatment in regard to the life of men, which on no account one must spread abroad, I will keep to myself, holding such things shameful to be spoken about.

If I fulfill this oath and do not violate it, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and art, being honored with fame among all men for all time to come; if I transgress it and swear falsely, may the opposite of all this be my lot.

Reboot Version

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:

I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.

I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon’s knife or the chemist’s drug.

I will not be ashamed to say “I know not,” nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient’s recovery.

I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person’s family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.

I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.

I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.

If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

People have said that the pain that is felt during kidney failure can be compared to woman being in labor. You might also add that rather than a life being produced at the end of it, a life ends instead. In the above petition a situation is laid out where that is exactly the fate health care providers have placed on a 2 year old child on account of his father being a parole violator….You heard that right people. Sins of the father has sentenced an innocent 2 year old to a painful death unless something is done to prevent this from happening. I’m sorry is that not often the type of thing that we use as justification for dropping bombs on other countries? When this child is on his death bed, he may still be too young to ask how much more grateful he is to live in the United States than anywhere else in the world. I ask you how is this not criminal enough for the law to step in and either force them to try to do something, or strip them of their license? Let’s ask the US Government, who are here to make America Great Again shall we?

Well congress seems content to drag it’s feet on the matter, but then not four years ago dragging it’s feet is exactly what caused a government shut down. Yes that was BEFORE our current President took office, old habits seem to die hard. Every body wants that pay and to have their own health coverage for life, but make a choice that may see them jeopardize that re election campaign and their strength and good judgement, disappears.

I will say this once. When it comes time to scream how pro life you are in enforcing anti abortion laws everyone steps up. When it comes time to show how “Pro Life” you really are when it comes to ensuring the quality of life for the young folk once they are born, “Pro Life” looks a lot more like “Pro Capitalism”

There is something terribly wrong with the mentality of humanity, a wall that blocks us from the good will of common sense. The thing that disturbs me most about it is the indication of how little we honestly care about the future of our people, particularly that of our young folk. You want to know History, you want to know how it is that every great civilization falls, how can it not when it’s only idea of investment is in profit and not in ensuring the quality of life of it’s future generations, especially the ones whose shoulders the most powerful stand on? All of the above are direct links to these petitions, so if you are reading this, you can also go and sign them yourselves, if you see where I am coming from with this. I have already signed and shared them all on social media. If we want a future for our people, the responsibility is as much ours as any politician’s. There is a wall that is blocking us from the future, a REAL FUTURE, and it’s time, much like what people in Hollywood have decided, to BURN IT DOWN! BURN IT DOWN! BURN IT DOWN!

I have been promising this entry for awhile now, but have found myself getting hung up on many other things in the interest of catching up on my other writing and getting my other pages back up and running. With this entry I want to take a moment to go a different route than most post election thoughts have gone, which is a Trump bashing party. I did not support Trump, in fact I signed a petition to get the Electoral College to side with the popular vote, that was me doing my part. Even so I want to steer clear of bashing our next president, because, for starters, there is more than enough of that going around so I would not be covering anything new, and also there are things that I feel “We the People” have been over looking for a really long time in the interest of putting all of our eggs in one basket, so to speak.

I predict, that within the first 90 days of Donald Trumps presidency, a lot of the people who voted for him and most of the ones who did not, are going to be trashing his term, and I say this, because guess what? The same thing happened to Obama. The same thing happened to GW Bush. Now while all elected officials make mistakes, there is something to be said of UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS, when it comes to these people that we vote into office. Only one percent of Americans can afford the type of lifestyle where you are not generally having to devote so much of your time and life just trying to make ends meet, because of this I think we have this issue of WANTING to think that these people are like shiny golden gods and maybe, just maybe they are going to get in there and fix things from the top of Mt. Olympus on down……. Problem is much of what ails this country is not anything that CAN BE FIXED by some long winded list of government made rules, It is things that the government, in reality can’t nor should be expected to handle. We are a democracy and what that means is, where we see our government fail, is where WE THE PEOPLE need to take up the slack.

The free thinking people who came up with the concept of democracy many millennia ago, did so with the working knowledge that putting the needs of the many into the hands of a few is a fools errand. An example of the meaning of this would be one of the big gripes people have had about the Obama Administration and that is Obamacare. Healthcare reform. Sounds good doesn’t it? Sounds necessary doesn’t it? One of the strong points made to justify it, was to ensure that everyone could have affordable Healthcare, and we got government funded insurance on the idea that it could force the private insurance companies into lowering their premiums. Sounds good in theory, untill you realize that the greed of the private insurance companies, is in part caused by the greed of other sectors of healthcare that Obamacare did not even address. One of these is the unethical practice of doing unnecessary tests and treatments, just because the doctor knows they can get the money for it. Obamacare got hit with that, but what we don’t think about is that the private insurance companies have always been hit with that as well. I’m sure that uncalled for back surgery that the insurance company got hit up for, for over eight grand works wonders for keeping those premiums down…..Not so much. Then you have what we call BIG PHARMA and the fact that when one of these companies make a patent on a new drug, no one else can make a knock off for two whole years, meaning in the beginning they can put whatever price tag they want on their product and if there is no substitute the patient has to pay that 800 USD for seven little pills in a bottle. What you did not see Obamacare do is try to regulate that by having a government based drug company. So in the end most of what makes healthcare cost an arm and a leg was left untouched. Is that all the fault of Obamacare? No, it is isn’t, because the reality is, in order for government to enact healthcare reform and be perfect, you would be looking at a book of laws and programs, that written in legal terminology, would be roughly seven times the size of the Holy Bible and if you were lucky about an eighth of it could even be understood, and if you were divinely fortunate one sixteenth of it would actually get enforced to any degree of efficiency once it made it’s way down the levels of healthcare. Our problems, CAN NOT be fixed from the top, down. From 1998 until 2000, one of my three jobs that I held at the time was as a janitor for a private owned doctors office. On three occasions while emptying the trash in the phlebotomy room I almost got stuck, by used needles that were wrongly placed in the regular waste paper basket rather than in the plastic biohazard container where they belonged. On all three occasions I went off  on the doctors who ran the place to do something about it, but alas it happened again. That was NOT on any government agency to do anything about, it was on the doctors who ran that private practice to fix and they failed. See where I am going with this? Before we have the right to expect more from our elected officials who come from American families and American towns, we HAVE to be able to expect better from ourselves, because “We The People of The United States of America” ARE the BOTTOM LINE, WE always have been.

Every election whether it is treated like UFC 200 Main event, like this last one was or not, is ripe with ads where candidates talk about what they believe and other politicians with known faces come on there and talk about how much this person or that person cares for our nation and it’s people and it is all to the inspirational and patriotic orchestra music playing in the back ground. I swear I don’t think I have seen a single profession where more people go out of their way to create larger than life personas to get the support of people than politics….. Oh wait a minute, professional wrestling comes to mind. With this being the case how can the people hope to believe that they can do as much for themselves as these shiny golden gods of Olympus that we feel the need to punch a ticket for once every four years? Well let me challenge you with a little piece of history that took place here in 2016 amid the desperate struggle for presidency. You might have seen me post here about a movement called Rise which was founded in the interest of protecting the rights of rape victims. The movement gained such support from people in general that they created an Act to take to the federal government to get passed into law. Now the fore runner of this group is a 24 year old girl named Amanda Ngyun and from start to finish the Act she took to Washington, with the backing of her supporters, went through each section of government with UNANIMOUS votes and government support. A girl, backed by the people, a girl twelve years too young to even be able to run for President of the United States, by law and without a political title of her own, did more to cut through the same old partisan politics that have been a stopper to many things attempted for the common good of the people than ANY president has been able to do for decades. We have power. Our problem comes from either not knowing how to use that power, or simply not believing that we have it in the first place.

Now before I close this out to the appearance of being just another know it all who specializes in complaining about an issue rather than trying to come up with a way to fix it, I want to revisit a point I made in one of my earlier entries. I talked a lot about my time living on a river bank in the small town of Marmet in West Virginia after my divorce. In that time I met many challenges. No room in shelters. No transportation other than walking because I had to keep every penny I found for things like water especially because this was in June of 2014. When you are placed in this type of situation, you have a choice to make. You can either cave to the despair that every single one of the numerous set backs cause, or you can really take stock of what is creating the issue, why some of these programs do not work, or do not work to the degree needed to really move towards solving homelessness as a problem. In the process of documenting my every move via Facebook I really was able to look at the situation and say. PROBLEM: I don’t have transportation, but I have to go to multiple places, JUST to get an idea of what all is out there that can help me get through this and come back into being a productive member of society, I then have X number of places that need to go to just to get the ball rolling. I have five days a week that any of these places are open to make use of them. THIS IS DOUBLE THE LEG WORK, DOUBLE THE TIME, and being on the streets, is no different than any survival situation where time is of the essence. SOLUTION: An easy fix would be to inform and provide the information to all of these programs to all of these organizations, since they are all essentially there to fix the same problem. What this would allow to happen is for someone of limited transportation to only have to go to one place in order to get informed themselves of all that is out there to aid them and cut down the leg work through giving them the tools to figure out a plan of action rather than go off of trial and error. I bring this up, because I believe that if we collectively had this same type of mentality, we would find that there really is so much more that we can do towards fixing our problems ourselves, instead of relying so heavily on elected officials just to turn around and blame them for EVERYTHING. And truthfully, if you are already feeling the negative effects of something that you are complaining about, then it stands the reason that you are already in that mess and it really will not take anymore of your time to examine it and see exactly where the problem is occurring and have an idea that can be shared on how that problem can be reduced if not eliminated. In short as a former president once said. “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”

The Family Friend

A Child’s Familiar Fable of The Spirit Realm

For Aleeah and Scrappy
The woods were quiet and the dim light of early evening shone through the trees. The silence was broken by the whining of a dog. Shags the pitbull limped, bleeding, through the trees in the forest, his injury, the result of a .38 caliber bullet hole that went clean through his shoulder. He had been shot in the process of trying to get away. His frantic look of desperation and confusion on where to go in the unfamiliar territory that he had been brought to after being taken from his family, mistaken for a ferocity that the dog had never showed in his four years of life.
Shags had slipped the collar and he saw an opening, knowing only that he had to get back to his family wherever they were now. He ran, the wind causing his lips to flap and the lids of his eyes to pull back in a slant. It was a look that had brought joy and laughter to River, the dogs owner, for many years when they would play in the yard. The officer had been to the left in front of him, but all Shags saw in his tunnel vision was the open path to freedom. The shot rang out as the bullet tore through the thick muscular shoulder of the dog. The impact of the shot knocked the big dog to the ground and he yelped, a horrid sound of pain and fear. The thought did not pass his dog mind in words but rather the increased urgency that he had to get home, had to get to River. Adrenaline pulsed through his large frame increasing the already formidable pain tolerance of his breed as Shags rose and again took to running. Two more shots rung out, both missed.
Shags collapsed on the wet fallen leaves, still on the ground from the previous Autumn. His breathing was shallow and he whimpered with each breath as the blood continued to flow from the gaping wound in his shoulder. He stared out ahead of him, the last of the days light intermingling with the multiple tiny lights floating in the forest, some from fireflies, some from the fairies that made the woods their home. Shags watched the lights of the little beings getting ever brighter as the light of the day itself slowly faded.
River sat in her room crying. It wasn’t fair that Shags was taken from her, he had done nothing wrong. Shags was given to her as a puppy that she could lift in one hand four years before. His name was Pup at the time. It was not for another five months when he became half of River’s size, a forty-five pound mass of muscle and puppy like goofiness that he was given the name Shags because of his habit of sliding down the carpet of the stairs face first on his side for fun. He would get to the bottom, sneeze and then dart up the stairs to do it again. He liked making River laugh, it filled his puppy heart with joy and the hugs he got afterwards didn’t hurt either. He was always there for her in the tough times like after she came home from her first day of school. She had been so nervous, and she had doubts about going back the next day, but when she got home Shags was there excited and wagging his tail. He was there on the day she found out that she was sick and would need treatments. She had cried then too and he had jumped up on the bed and lay next to her gently laying his big flat head in her lap. It was comforting, to know she had this friend that was always there for her when she needed it most.
Three days before there had been a report on the news about a dog fighting ring getting broken up when one of the dogs escaped and attacked a kid that was walking home from school. Among the penalties faced by those who ran the clandestine operation was a fine for an all but forgotten ban on the pitbull breed. For years River and her family had lived happily with Shags, but after this report came up, one of their neighbors saw the little girl playing in the yard with Shags and had called the authorities. Now Shags was gone. Five people had come to their door, dog catchers and officers both, to take Shags. River begged them not to take him and her parents did everything they could to try and reason with them. They would have none of it. One of the officers saw fit, in front of the family to keep his hand on his gun and remind them that if the dog made any sudden movements in the process of being removed that he was full within his rights to put the dog down on the spot.
“Please, let Shags come home.” She said through her tears. Unknown to River, she had another companion. One she had never met, but one who had been with her far longer than Shags, lifetimes in point of fact. He did not yet have a name, for only the incarnation destined to make the connection with him would name him. He was River’s spirit guide and guardian. One day he would be called Howlett, but for now he was just a barn owl with strange yellow green eyes that had pinprick pupils. He watched as the girl cried, but when she had asked for Shags to be returned, Her choice set into motion his ability to give aid to the familiar that had made a connection to his charge.
Into the night sky the barn owl flew. The energy of the connection the familiar shared with River, his guide to finding the location where Shags lay bleeding and tending to his wound. The live animals of the waking world were familiars, all of them, their own breed of nature spirit. The wild ones were often used as emissaries for the spirit guides, but those that were domesticated made deeper connections with people that allowed for them to share in the protection and guidance of their people’s twin flame.
Shags lay licking his wound to keep it clean, he was lightheaded from the blood loss and weak, but there was nothing for him to do but what his instinct told him to do. If he could think in the same fashion that people do, he would have wished that in that moment River could be there with him as he had been for her many times. Instead he remembered and he felt, both the love in the memory and the pain that it was now lost to him. “Shags.” The voice entered his mind. He stopped licking his wound and looked up, his ears perked, his eyes confused yet happy to hear his name, though unsure of how. The owl landed in front of him. “Shags, come on boy, we’re going to get you back where you belong.” Shags immediately recognized the owl, he had been aware of his presence and his connection to River from the very start and most importantly, he was happy to see a friendly face he knew. The big dog started wagging his tail.
The owl saw the wound and coming closer began flapping his wings, within moments the movement began to generate a soft glowing white light and Shags felt a strange humming vibration enter him through the wound in his shoulder. The bleeding had stopped, though the damage was still present, but Shags felt a renewed strength enter his body and with steely, bull headed resolve, the dog got up to all fours and watched as the owl took flight. “Alright boy, lets play.” The voice in his head told him as the owl brushed his cold wet nose make him sneeze and go into the chase down, which was always Shag’s favorite game. As the owl took flight Shags went into pursuit, ignoring the pain in his body as he did.
In just under an hour Shags had followed the owl to a very familiar location, the place he had seen everyday for four years, his home. Time for a little help. The owl thought and sent out the call in the speech of the owls and found one nearby. The owl had received the call from the spirit guide and took flight lighting heavily on the car that belonged to River’s parents and setting off the alarm in the process. Not a full minute had passed before River’s father came out of the house to deal with the alarm. Shags wagged his tail as he watched the man look around confused as to how the alarm was set off in the first place. As Rivers dad turned to go back into the gate of the yard he heard a whining dog and upon looking found Shags limping happily towards him wagging his tail. “Shags?” He said. “Is that you boy?” The dog now moved faster at a labored trot. “Oh God. What happened to you boy?” He said as he noticed the gunshot wound in the dogs shoulder. Looking around to make sure there were no prying eyes, the man led Shags into the house.
River was still sitting on her bed crying when father came to her door. “River honey, come on out. there is someone here to see you.” He said. After a moment River had dried her tears and came to the door. “He’s in the living room, come on down.” Without a word the little girl followed her father down the stairs and her face suddenly lit up when she saw her buddy laying on the floor. “SHAGS!!!” She cried running to the dogs side. Shags managed a lazy but steady thumping of a wagging tail as his person rushed to his side, just like he knew she would.
River got upset when she saw that Shags had been hurt. “He’s been hurt!” She said. New tears spilling down her cheeks. “He has, and we need to get him to the all night vet as soon as we can.” Her father said. “So why don’t you go upstairs get dressed and we’ll take him to get that fixed up, what do you say?” Her dad barely had time to ask before River hugged him tight and darted back upstairs to get ready without even another word.
If owls had the type of mouths that could register a smile, River’s unknown spirit partner would have been seen as happy, but he roosted instead with a clear look of peaceful contentment for a job well done. Shags did heal from his injury, and he was sent to a family member who lived in a more tolerant environment, and River came to visit once a week during her treatments. She along with her family launched a fight to get the breed ban lifted in order to allow Shags to come home to stay.

This story was one that I had not anticipated on writing. I had hoped to take a little break from The Spirit Realm, but it seems every time I try my Middle Earth just keeps calling to me. This time however, there was a purpose to it. A few days back I received a link to a petition for helping the family of a young four year old girl with cystic fibrosis, keep their dog that has been a huge source of comfort and security for the girl as she goes through her treatments. Their dog Scrappy, is a Pit bull and the petition is to help lift the breed specific ban and allow the two to stay together. I have been pushing this every chance I get ever since. I am a supporter of the breed. I have had two myself and in all honesty, you really can not find a more loyal companion than a pit bull, also as a misunderstood misfit myself I know what this breed faces. I was inspired by the story of this girl and her dog to tell one of my own that might give people an idea of how laws like this created and fueled by the paranoia caused by mass media coverage can put a family like this through Hell. I mean those with pets know, that they are family and laws like this really are the equivalent of having CPS come and take your kid away for no damn reason. The petition is still up, they are still in need of signatures 12,046 to be exact to reach a 150,000 milestone. I am leaving the link here. Please do look into it, sign it and pass it along. Thank you, – Love BIG CAT

Ladies and gentlemen, after multiple delays and sidetracking of a sort unworthy of mentioning in detail. “The Diary Of A Vagabond King” has finally arrived. I am working on getting it uploaded to various sites as it stands it will hit Amazon first at some point in the morning. Nevertheless it has been released at long last. And yes I noticed people looking for the advertisement here after putting it up on Facebook. This is not a drill, or false alarm. The book is out there, find it, buy it, read it. Have a blessed day. – Love BIG CAT
